Astex Pharmaceuticals is a member of one of Japan's leading pharmaceutical companies, the Otsuka group. It focuses on developing small-molecule therapeutics with a focus on oncology and hematology. Its fragment-based drug discovery platform, Pyramid, has been successfully applied to therapeutic targets addressing a variety of disease areas. The company was formerly known as SuperGen Inc. and changed its name in September 2011. Astex was founded in 1991 and is headquartered in Dublin, California.
