Unserviceable: The effects of COVID-19 have reduced industry revenue and demand
The Site Preparation Services industry is one of the largest specialist construction services industries, as its services are integral to the early stages of most construction projects and resource developments. The industry comprises many small-scale contractors that supply heavy construction equipment with skilled operators and a handful of larger contractors capable of undertaking large-scale or complex projects. The industry's performance has been influenced by widely divergent trends in the core building markets and industry revenue is expected to decline at an annualised 1.9% over the five years through 2023-24 to $32.4 billion. Revenue is expected to contract by 3.7% in the current year in response to the scaling back of work on residential subdivisions in response to the hike in mortgage interest rates and the withdrawal of the Federal HomeBuilder stimulus.
Industry companies primarily conduct earthmoving work, such as levelling construction sites, excavating foundations, digging trenches or removing overburden from mine sites. The industry also includes companies that hire out earthmoving equipment with operators (wet hire).
This report covers the scope, size, disposition and growth of the industry including the key sensitivities and success factors. Also included are five year industry forecasts, growth rates and an analysis of the industry key players and their market shares.
