Demand for carpets and rugs has been driven by rising residential and commercial building construction activity, supported by government initiatives, such as the Help to Buy scheme, ProCure22 and the elimination of stamp duty for first-time home buyers. Furthermore, the trade weighted pound benefitted export revenue. Nonetheless, falling consumer confidence and residential transactions have constrained revenue, compounded by the negative economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, which significantly disrupted normal economic activity and weighed on industry revenue. Over the five years through 2023-24, industry revenue is expected to decrease at a compound annual rate of 3.3% to £965 million.Rolling out the carpet: Constrained household disposable incomes are expected to limit industry revenue growth in 2022-23
