Roofing Contractors industry operators perform installation, maintenance and repair on the roofs of residential homes and nonresidential buildings. This work includes installing roofs and skylights and treating roofs. Over the past five years, roofers have benefited from broad economic improvements in the United States. As a result of the US Federal Reserve's monetary policy, interest rates remained lower than their historical norms during the period. This has enabled consumers to secure accommodative mortgage financing for new homes, while construction contractors locked into favorable borrowing agreements. This has led to increases in construction activity in the residential and nonresidential markets, which has bolstered industry revenue. Industry revenue has decreased at an annualized rate of 1.2% to $56.7 billion over the past five years, including a decrease of 3.5% in 2023 alone. Slow growth in 2020 is due to a drop in the value of nonresidential construction and corporate profit as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
