Transported: Demand from vessel and aircraft leasing markets has boosted industry revenue

This report covers the scope, size, disposition and growth of the industry including the key sensitivities and success factors. Also included are five year industry forecasts, growth rates and an analysis of the industry key players and their market shares.

Despite plunging demand from tourism during the pandemic, the Transport Equipment and Large Vehicle Rental industry's revenue has expanded in recent years. Falling international and domestic tourist numbers during the pandemic sharply reduced demand for short-term rentals of leisure vehicles, like campervans and buses. Even so, the vessel and aircraft leasing and rolling stock leasing segments have grown as shares of revenue. Overall, industry revenue is expected to rise at an annualised 2.8% over the five years through 2023-24, to total $4.0 billion. This trend includes an anticipated drop of 0.4% in the current year, as the total value of merchandise imports and exports is set contract.

Industry businesses rent out transport equipment including trucks, buses, aircraft, freight containers and refrigerated containers. Rental is of vehicles or equipment only and does not include the hire of a driver, pilot or other operators. Financial leases are excluded from the industry.
