Allergy rates are on the rise, and the US FDA intends to find out if the cosmetics industry is possibly partly responsible.
The agency intends to survey cosmetics consumers to determine the frequency with which adverse reactions to allergens in cosmetics occur, the level of consumer awareness of these issues, and what consumers are doing to avoid such allergens (if anything).
This online survey is the first time in 40 years that the agency has publically attempted to address the possible link between cosmetics usage and allergies, incidents of which FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb suspects are going underreported.
