A study of the plastic pipe market showed that different types of pipe materials can be used in the home water supply system for different purposes, including fresh water supply, wastewater disposal, irrigation, gas pipes for household appliances, etc. The old water supply system may be dominated by cast iron and galvanised iron, whereas the new home will use almost exclusively plastic pipes of various types.
Although steel, cast iron and copper are good materials for pipes that are still in active use, plastic offers many advantages that they lack. The main advantage is that plastic is easy to cut, shape and size, which reduces the labour costs of installing them. Other advantages of plastic pipes can be as follows:
Inactivity. A common problem with metal pipes is that when two different types of pipes are joined, they can react with each other and be exposed to corrosion. Plastic pipes, in turn, are resistant to chemical corrosion.
Corrosion resistance: many metals begin to rust after prolonged contact with water and other liquids. Plastic is not as exposed to such effects.
Low thermal conductivity: many types of plastic pipes can withstand a wide range of temperatures without deformation or cracking. At the same time, their low conductivity helps to keep water inside without creating condensation, as is common in copper pipes (if not insulated).
Colour coding and labelling: plastic pipes will almost always vary in colour and will be marked on the outside to indicate the diameter, nominal pressure and type of plastic. In some cases, plastic pipes will also have a laboratory seal indicating that they can be used for drinking water. This makes it easy to identify the type and purpose of the pipe so that it can be replaced if necessary.
Plumbing, hot and cold water, sewerage, wastewater and ventilation, sewerage, gas distribution, irrigation, water pipes, fire sprinkler systems and process pipes are the main markets for plastic pipe systems around the world. In the plastic pipe market, underground pipelines make up the majority of the market. Plastic piping systems make it possible to use many important environmentally friendly technologies in buildings. In addition, plastic products use less energy in production, and many countries are already focusing on national plastics strategies to move towards a circular and resource-efficient plastics economy. For example, plastic pipes, according to expert estimates, use approximately 1.5 times less energy in production.
In general, the cost of construction materials (and therefore the cost and volume of construction work) in Ukraine is affected by a number of factors: the cost of the product, the competitive environment and the nature of consumer demand, the uniqueness of the product, purchasing power and other factors.
In the plastic pipe market, product prices vary with respect to product groups, and depending on the availability of promotional offers and the availability of goods in the range of operators.
As of Q1 2020 in Ukraine the following tendency for the performed construction works has developed. This trend reflects the demand for plastic pipes according to the type of work performed.
The main reason for the increase in the size of the plastic pipe market is the need for pipelines in the construction industry and wastewater management. In addition, based on considerations, plastic pipes have much higher growth potential than other materials used in their manufacture. The plastic pipe market in Ukraine exists at the expense of potential customers. At the same time, the specifics of products imply the availability of capacities to provide the widest possible choice and fill niche segments. The market is characterized by the sale of a large number of products, which are sold only when they are needed. For the development of the industrial sector, investments into the real economy, to a greater extent made in the domestic direct investment market by domestic companies and organisations, are of priority importance. Investments made by foreign investors account for a small share of the total investment portfolio. The main priority investment vectors in Ukraine are agriculture, construction and industry, where plastic pipes are widely used.
