This book is aimed at practitioners of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in manufacturing. This is an emerging field where much work is being done by contractors but, increasingly, companies are realizing the need for training and developing talent in-house. Yet many applied AI engineers inside of companies do not know where to start, and the major manufacturers are just now starting to realize the potential for AI (particularly deep learning) to transform their businesses, particularly in manufacturing. The author brings contemporary expertise to the topic, being the lead engineer on AI projects at Procter & Gamble. He noticed that current literature is almost exclusively focused at researchers in academia and technology, researchers who have never considered some of the roadblocks and practical applications that exist in manufacturing environments. This is a unique space with a unique set of challenges that may not be found in everyday machine learning literature, and this book aims to fill that gap.
