Whilst potential demand for new cars in the Americas picked up significantly post-pandemic, recovery in vehicle production and the original equipment tire market was held back by major shortages of components, specifically semiconductors. Supply chain disruption continued in 2022, resulting from numerous factors including Covid-related lockdowns in China. This delayed the recovery in the OE tire market, and whilst supply shortages are easing vehicle demand across the region is now being affected by higher interest rates, economic uncertainty and increased new vehicle prices.

The PCLT replacement tire market in the Americas made a strong recovery in 2021, particularly in the US, as vehicle kilometres travelled increased following the steep declines in 2020. Sharply higher fuel costs in 2022 have slowed the recovery in road traffic and higher inflation is now impacting household budgets and spending. Nevertheless, the value of the market has risen sharply as tire manufacturers have passed on significantly higher raw material costs, with high rim diameter tires taking a larger share of the market.
