About Luxembourg
In the decade since 2010, Digital Luxembourg, a Government initiative formed in 2014, claims to have installed Dark Fibre across Luxembourg and a claimed 50,000 m2 of Data Centre raised floor space - a key starting point in enabling the uptake of digital services and the availability of high-speed fibre broadband across the country.
The amount of third-party Data Centre space appears to be sufficient for the Luxembourg market, with a few new facilities planned - As an example, Data4 Group, which has secured an additional Euro €620 million of funding for expansion, intends to expand its Data Centre campus’ in Paris, Milan and Madrid but not Luxembourg.
The proposed introduction of a Google Data Centre in Luxembourg will be the first large cloud company investment in the country with around USD $1.2 billion. Initial plans disclosed in 2019 revealed two buildings with 30,000 m2 of space each on a site of 25 hectares in total.
