Denmark’s oil and gas resources are produced in the shallow waters of the Danish North Sea. Production from the Danish North Sea began in 1972 and the sector has contributed greatly to the Danish economy. Denmark has been a net exporter of oil and natural gas since 1997 but recently became a net importer as domestic production has declined and reconstruction work has commenced on the country’s major offshore gas hub, Tyra. Over the decades Denmark has been able to build out its offshore oil and gas infrastructure through a number of major discoveries and developments. For the Danish oil and gas sector, the best days are in the past, peak Danish production peaked in 2004 averaging 500,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boed) and production has been declining annually ever since. Current production is approximately 90,000 boed. The country produces both crude oil and natural gas resources and the publisher estimate that there is over 300 million barrels (mmbbls) of crude oil and condensate reserves remaining in producing and upcoming developments. For natural gas, the publisher estimate over 1 trillion cubic feet (tcf) of reserves remaining in producing and upcoming developments. Denmark’s 2021 natural gas production currently stands at around 120 mmcfd down from 130 mmcfd in 2020. 2021 crude and condensate production sits at 67,000 barrels per day (bd), down from 71,000 bd in 2020.
