This study helps its readers pinpoint students who are interested in transferring to a new college. The report gives highly detailed data on students who have previously transferred, and on those who are planning to transfer. In addition, it provides data and commentary on what students might be looking for in a new college, and how student perceptions of the value of a degree from the college they attend may have changed over time.
Just a few of the many findings of this 80-page report are that:
- 16.91% of students surveyed had previously transferred from another college to their present college.
- Men were slightly more likely than women, and both were much likelier than transgender students, to consider leaving for a new college.
- Approximately 61% of those sampled said that their perception of the ultimate value of their degree had not changed while they have been in college.
- Students who describe themselves as very left wing or very right wing were more likely than others to feel that their education was less valuable than they had initially expected.
Data in the report is based on a representative sample of nearly 1,200 full time college students in colleges and universities in the USA; findings are broken out by more than 20 personal and institutional variables. So, for example, readers can get specific data on plans for transferring to a new college for first year students vs. sophomores, juniors or seniors, or for students in level 1 research universities vs. doctoral institutions, or for male vs. female or vs. transgender students, or for business/economics majors vs fine arts majors, etc., etc.
Breakouts include age, year of school standing, major or intended major, religion, gender, sexual orientation, income level, SAT/ACT scores, college grades, regional origins, race/ethnicity, level of school tuition, size of school of institution attended and many other variables. This is a critical resource for policy makers in academic libraries as well as a unique data source for social scientists and other studying higher education.
