Global M&A activity in oil and gas sector in 2021 grew 16% to reach $335 billion. In terms of deal volume, 2021 saw 1,799 deals compared to 1,818 in the previous year, recording a minor drop of 1%. There were 74 billion-dollar-plus M&A deals in the oil and gas sector in 2021, compared to 40 in the previous year. Upstream contributed to the maximum M&A transaction value of $120 billion in 2021, it also recorded the highest growth of 48% compared to 2020.
