Europe has less irrigated land as compared to USA and faces water scarcity as a result of which the farmers are opting for micro irrigation systems. In a lieu to increase the crop yield and quality the farmers are increasingly choosing micro irrigation systems for farming. Micro irrigation is helpful when the rainfall is insufficient resulting into water scarcity. With the ever increasing population the demand for food crops is also rising which results into more water requirements for agriculture. Micro irrigation in Europe has majority consumption in agriculture. The quantity of water is determined by various elements like crop type, cropping method, soil fertility, moisture in air, and lastly type of irrigation used. Maize is the major crop grown in Italy and France. Germany incorporates micro irrigation to grow maize, potatoes, vegetables and sugar beets. This report comes with 10% free customization, enabling you to add data that meets your specific business needs.

According to the report title Europe Micro Irrigation System Market Outlook, 2027 the market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 9.44% by the year 2027. United Kingdom has less irrigated land as compared to other countries of Europe. Drip irrigation is increasingly being adopted by farmers in this region though the market is expected to show a consistent rising trend over the forecast period. The government has formed many policies to solve the challenges of water sustainability for agriculture that includes water re-use, research & development and environmental pressures caused by over use of land for agriculture.
According to the World Bank, over the past 55 years, there has been an EU-wide decrease of 17 % in renewable water resources per capita. Though this is partly due to population growth, pressure from economic activity and climate change is also aggravating seasonal and yearlong water scarcity in parts of the EU. Climate change, with higher average temperatures and more frequent, more extreme weather events (including droughts), is making freshwater scarcer. Forecasts indicate water stress is likely to increase in a significant portion of the Europe by 2030.
Voluntary Coupled Support is used by all Member States of Europe except Germany to maintain or increase production of certain crops from sectors in difficulties. The EU restricts support to specific sectors, including water intensive crops such as rice, nuts, and fruit and vegetables. However, it finances irrigation infrastructure through the CMO for three sectors: fruit and vegetables, olives and olive oil, and wine. In recent years, funding for irrigation projects, in the fruit and vegetables sector has been highest, in Spain (Andalusia) and Portugal.
