Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) have been part of transmission systems for more than 5 decades. Over time multiple FACTS technologies have been introduced and technology is still evolving. As the new energy sources are becoming part of generation mix across the globe, it has given rise to an increase in demand of modern FACTS technologies to ensure reliability of power supply. FACTS are reactive power compensation devices primarily divided into two categories, series and shunt compensation. This is a database style service containing over 4000 Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS) projects. The database includes project specific information of FACTS projects delivered over a time span of 7 decades around the globe. Additionally, announced future projects are added into the database and an update is released twice a year.
This service only includes FACTS as per defined by the scope below:
- Series Compensation: Series Compensation devices include Series Capacitors which can be further segmented into three types based on the application.
- Shunt Compensation: FACTS are connected in parallel with the transmission lines to provide shunt compensation. STATIC VAR Compensator (SVC) and Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM) fall under this category.
This service does not include other reactive power support devices such as Synchronous Condenser, Unified Power Flow Controller and Static Synchronous Series Compensator (SSSC).
