Lower risk of cardiovascular disease and coronary heart disease was observed in those who consumed an ounce of nuts five or more times per week as compared to those who never or almost never did. In a separate study, the researchers examined the health advantages of eating peanuts, walnuts, and peanut butter.

The demand in this region has expanded because of the surge in demand for far more nutrient-dense foods as well as the challenges presented by a large population with a high obesity rate. According to the 2019 data from the Center for the Promotion of Imports from Developing Countries, Europe is among the world's top importers of walnuts, making up approximately half of all imports. Due to a consumption trend toward better eating, walnut imports entering Europe are rising.
