By assembling the first comprehensive report of Key Performance Indicators for Gas Utilities, the publisher provides a useful resource for novices and experts alike. It can be used in the early stages of implementing a performance management framework, in the process of selecting and documenting KPIs, but also for improving an existing performance measurement system. In time, the subjective nature of individual performance evaluations and the dominance of financial indicators for evaluating enterprise performance became stepstones for performance management in human activities.

Executive Summary
Through benchmarking organizations learn how to better position themselves on the market and assess their performance levels in comparison to their competitors. Ultimately, benchmarking enables a recalibration ofimprovement initiatives and strategic approaches in order to provide better products and services, while using less resources.
For this purpose, The Center for Performance Benchmarking and the Utilities Performance Labs have initiated in 2016 a large scale project which reveals the most common KPIs monitored by utilities companies worldwide and presents their performance results. The extensive data collected as part of this secondary research initiative was skillfully scrutinized and refined, so as to provide users with a well-rounded off collection of data for companies in the utilities sector to compare themselves against.
