Patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) is an effective pain management technique that offers the patient control over their pain. These pumps deliver opioid painkillers such hydromorphone, fentanyl, and morphine. The pump is attached to an intravenous (IV) line, which is a small, flexible tube inserted into a vein.
