The growth of the high frequency transformer market is driven by the growing adoption of advanced technologies such as IIoT, factory automation, 5G, and cloud computing in consumer electronics, automotive, manufacturing, IT & telecommunications, and military & defense verticals. In addition, the rising trend of miniaturization of electronics and small form factor components in the consumer electronics and automotive verticals are projected to drive the growth of the high-frequency transformer market.

The growing adoption of various technologies in the industrial sector for advanced control and automation, applications in motor drives, inverters, robotics, battery chargers, UPS, and other industrial equipment will increase the growth of high frequency transformers market. Furthermore, power supplies play a key role in all electronic devices. In addition, the growing trend of component miniaturization is driving the demand for high-frequency transformers in both industrial and consumer markets.

High Frequency Transformer Market Drivers:
  • Growth in Adoption of Electric Vehicles
  • Expanding Renewable Energy Industry
  • Growing Demand for Consumer Electronics and Household Appliances
Transformer, device that transfers electric energy from one alternating-current circuit to one or more other circuits, either increasing (stepping up) or reducing (stepping down) the voltage. Transformers are employed for widely varying purposes, e.g., to reduce the voltage of conventional power circuits to operate low-voltage devices, such as doorbells and toy electric trains, and to raise the voltage from electric generators so that electric power can be transmitted over long distances.

The high-frequency transformers operate between 20 kHz and 1 MHz; the higher the frequency, the smaller the transformer size. In this segment, the switched mode power supply (SMPS) high-frequency transformer has facilitated the development of many topologies to meet the design requirements.

The use of high frequency (HF) transformers for energy conversion and storage, filtering, and isolation are crucial in power conversion systems and switching mode power supplies (SMPS). Their advantage is their high efficiency, high power density, low weight, and small size. These characteristics make them suitable for power electronic applications such as power supplies, UPS magnetic amplifiers, EV car battery chargers, and PV solar renewable energy systems.

The high frequency transformers market is moving towards the evolution of solid state transformers. A solid state transformer (SST) accepts a three-phase low frequency high-voltage input and provides a low frequency lower-voltage output. The transistors could be SiC or GaN types with the appropriate specifications. First, the input circuit converts 60 Hz high voltage ac input to a dc voltage. Then, the DC produces an AC voltage of 10 to 20 kHz applied to a step-down transformer.

A flyback transformer is an energy conversion device that transfers energy from one part of the circuit to the other at constant power. The voltage is stepped up to a very high value in a flyback transformer based on the application. It is also called a line output transformer, as the output line voltage is fed to the other part of the circuit. With the help of the rectifying circuit, the primary winding of the transformer can be driven by a DC circuit.
