The spotlight was on Apple following the release of its Vision Pro headset in February 2024 and its troubles and legal disputes. The Vision Pro received a positive overall response, with users praising its ability to blend digital content into the physical world. However, the device does not currently support popular apps like YouTube, Spotify, and Netflix. This is primarily because many developers believe that the Vision Pro will not be a big enough platform to justify the time and resources necessary to make their apps compatible with the device. Vision Pro sales should be robust in Q2, but a very high price will hamper adoption as the novelty wears off.

Apple’s sales in the Greater China region are declining due to the knock-on effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and resurgent interest in domestic tech. Rumors circulated in February 2024 that SMIC may be close to creating chip production lines in Shanghai that supply 5-nanometer (nm) processors to domestic handset makers like Huawei. Further rumors circulated in March 2024 that SMIC was assembling an R&D team to start working on a 3nm process within the year. Pressure from Chinese tech companies will continue to hamper Apple’s position in China.
