There was no change at the top of the thematic screen of the analyst’s telecom services sector scorecard in the second quarter of 2024. For the second consecutive quarter, the top 10 remained exactly the same, with Telefónica in the top spot ahead of Orange and SK Telecom. Rounding out the top 10 are two US companies (Verizon and AT&T), two European companies (Deutsche Telekom and BT), two Middle Eastern companies (E& and Saudi Telecom), and one Japanese company (NTT).

Key Highlights

  • Telecom carriers continue to face global challenges, including uncertainty created by geopolitics, the economic climate, and issues with supply chains. They also benefit from technology advancements in areas such as cloud, enterprise digitalization, and virtualization, which have enabled carriers to bring different technology components together and deliver value to customers through a strong portfolio of services.
  • From a customer perspective, businesses continue to become operationally agile by focusing on customer experience and introducing new business models in new segments, and this will continue to support moving applications to the cloud with strong security layers. As a result, telcos will transition to building and implementing cloud-centric networks that scale up to customer demands and address the security risks associated with data in private and public cloud settings, including data sovereignty.
