The Denmark Data Center Power Market size is estimated at USD 134.70 million in 2024, and is expected to reach USD 218.90 million by 2029, growing at a CAGR of 10.40% during the forecast period (2024-2029).

The increasing demand for cloud computing among SMEs, government regulations for local data security, and growing investment by domestic players are some of the major factors driving the demand for data centers in the country.

Key Highlights

  • Under Construction IT Load Capacity: The upcoming IT load capacity of the Danish data center market is expected to reach more than 300 MW by 2029.
  • Under Construction Raised Floor Space: The country's construction of raised floor area is expected to increase above 1.2 million sq. ft by 2029.
  • Planned Racks: The country's total number of racks to be installed is expected to reach above 63,800 units by 2029. Copenhagen is expected to house the maximum number of racks by 2029. According to the Danish Climate Change Council 2019, in Denmark data centers will increase the country's total energy consumption by 17% within 10 years.
  • Planned Submarine Cables: There are close to 30 submarine cable systems connecting Denmark, and many are under construction. For instance, in July 2023, the final section of the Viking Link submarine cable was laid in the North Sea and now provides a full electrical connection between the United Kingdom and Denmark.

Denmark Data Center Power Market Trends

Monitored PDU Records the Largest Market Share

  • Data center management teams are constantly exploring new methods and approaches to improve energy efficiency while providing a modular and adaptable IT environment that supports service-oriented architectures and rapidly changing demand parameters.
  • The adoption of hyperscale facilities owing to the extensive use of cloud services and Industry 4.0 is expected to fuel the market during the forecast period. In 2021, 42% of EU enterprises used cloud computing. In 2023, the percentage of businesses with internet connection was generally similar across EU Member States.
  • The goal of a hyperscale data center is to serve a technology's digital and cloud infrastructure by offering a cohesive, generally scalable computing architecture. The hyperscale data center market in Denmark is expanding as a result of an increase in demand for data centers to improve productivity and customer experiences. Thus, the overall increase in the continuous working of DC facilities creates a need for PDUs in the country.
  • In April 2023, R&M, a global company and provider of high-end infrastructure solutions for data and communications networks, introduced its first PDU. The intelligent power distribution unit for data centers and server rooms is called ActiPower 4.0. The goal is to enable data center operations that save cost and energy.
  • Green power, low-latency networks, and Europe's most reliable power grid are reasons global technology giants and international colocation operators are located in Denmark. The country's stable climate offers other political, economic, and weather advantages. This makes Denmark one of the safest places in the world, with excellent conditions for low-energy cooling. Thus, to achieve 100% uptime, demand for PDUs is expected to steadily increase during the forecast period.

IT and Telecommunication is Anticipated to be the Fastest-growing Segment

  • Denmark ranks first in terms of security with a score of 9.69/10, with few cyberattacks and a high level of online privacy. The quality of the supporting infrastructure, such as availability, is also excellent. The primacy of land or water is also an important factor in land primacy. Support infrastructure scored 9.4 out of 10.
  • The increased absorption is caused by end customers using racks and servers, including cloud, e-commerce, BFSI, telecom, and other businesses. For instance, Denmark is a significant e-commerce market in Europe in terms of internet penetration, the proportion of people that use it, and average spending (USD 3,000 on online shopping). E-commerce sales in Denmark increased from USD 16.54 billion (EUR 15.5 billion) in 2017 to USD 27.5 billion in 2023. Increased data management and storage will, therefore, increase the power units to maintain the continuous workflow of DC facilities.
  • The need for cloud solutions continues to grow in Denmark, and the demand for cloud-based data protection and backup solutions is expected to get more robust. In June 2022, Keepit, a cloud backup service with headquarters in Copenhagen, raised USD 22.5 million in debt financing from Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) in association with Vaekstfonden. The platform will use the additional cash to build its SaaS data security platform while developing new products and expanding internationally.
  • Google's new data center location, Fredericia, is located in the southeast of Jutland, making it ideal for connecting to HAVFRUE. The company claims the site will be carbon neutral from the start, as electricity consumption is offset by investments in five solar parks in Denmark with a capacity of 160MW. Thus, the growth in DC facilities in Denmark is expected to increase the demand for power units during the forecast period.

Denmark Data Center Power Industry Overview

The Danish data center power market is moderately competitive and has gained a competitive edge in recent years. In terms of market share, a few major players, such as ABB Ltd, Vertiv Group Corp., Eaton Corporation, Schneider Electric SE, and Legrand Group, currently dominate the market.
  • January 2024: Vertiv announced the plans to double its manufacturing capacity for busways, switchgear, and integrated modular solutions (IMS) by 2025. The expansion plans include increasing utilization and footprint in the United Arab Emirates, Ireland, South Carolina (United States), Mexico, Slovakia, and Northern Ireland.
  • December 2023: Eaton, an intelligent power management company, announced the launch of its new Rack PDU G4 (4th generation) that provides a high security and business continuity data center. It also combines with C39 outlets that securely connect both C14 and C20 power cords, backed by a locking mechanism and a built-in high retention system that secures the power cord.
