Key Developments Include Ships In Own Container (SIOC) and Eco-Friendly Packaging Products
This study analyzes US e-commerce ready packaging trends. E-commerce ready packaging is defined as having two components:
- Ships in Own Container (SIOC)
- New product development designed to improve existing product packaging to optimize it for direct-to-consumer shipping
In this study, packaging is only counted when used in business-to-consumer (B2C) e-commerce sales, that is, transactions between businesses and consumers using devices that access the internet, such as:
- desktop computers
- laptops
- tablets
- smartphones
- smart wearables
Excluded from the scope of this study are:
- consumer-to-consumer transactions (e.g., a private individual selling used items through an online marketplace)
- business-to-business transactions (e.g., a business purchasing office furniture online)
- online sales of cars and other motor vehicles
- online transactions involving houses and real estate
- returned items
