This comprehensive survey sheds light on the demographics, motivations, and effectiveness of . participation in recruitment efforts. This study helps college marketing staff to pinpoint students willing to work with the college marketing staff. It gives detailed data on the type of student marketing efforts students have participated in, how they view the effectiveness of such activities, and how willing they are to participate in college marketing in the near future. The report covers participation in social media posting, college tours and open houses, testimonials and college fairs, and other marketing vehicles. The study also looks at the extent of participation, and student evaluation of college support for these efforts

A few of this 175-page report’s many findings are:

  • Participation Rates by Academic Major: The survey found that academic major significantly impacts student participation in recruitment activities. Performing Arts students have the highest participation rate at 61.54%, followed by Communications/Media (33.33%) and Sociology/Political Science (27.63%) students.
  • Impact of Race and Ethnicity: African American students are the most active in college marketing efforts, with a participation rate of 30.83%. In contrast, White students have the lowest participation rate at 19.08%.
  • Influence of Tuition Costs: Higher tuition correlates with higher participation in recruitment activities. Students from colleges with tuition above $20,000 have the highest participation rate at 30.36%, while those from schools with tuition below $6,000 have the lowest rate at 14.98%.
  • Types of Marketing Activities: Among students who participate in recruitment, the most common activities are speaking with prospective students (10.86%), attending college fairs (7.05%), and giving campus tours (4.60%).
  • Motivations for Participation: Personal satisfaction is a key motivator for students participating in college marketing efforts, especially among private college students (24.79%) and high SAT/ACT scorers (22.31%). Financial incentives are particularly important for lower-income students (12.42%) and those with lower SAT scores (29.63% for 900 SAT or below).

These findings highlight the diverse factors influencing student involvement in college marketing efforts and underscore the importance of tailored recruitment strategies. Data is broken out by 19 personal and institutional characteristics including but not limited to gender, income level, academic major, regional origin, age, SAT/ACT scores,  sexual orientation, year of class standing, political convictions and many other personal variables, as well as tuition level, public private status and enrollment size among institutional variables.
