Hexamethylenediamine (HMDA) is a chemical compound with H2N (CH2)6NH2 formula. It is composed of an amine functional group terminating a hexamethylene hydrocarbon chain. HMDA finds application in coatings, petrochemical additives, high-performance polyurethane paints, and epoxy curing agents, among other non-nylon applications. It is also a corrosion and scale inhibitor in water treatment facilities. In addition to nylon 66, it is used to manufacture nylon 612, nylon 69, and nylon 610. Because of the green movement, the need for bio-based HMDA to create nylon 66 increased.
The adoption of HMDA has experienced a steady rise, driven by its indispensable role in various industries. The demand for nylon 66 has been a significant driver for the HMDA. The usage of nylon 66 in producing multiple components prompted increased demand for HMDA due to the automotive sector's increasing demand for lightweight, high-performance materials. Additionally, the construction industry's reliance on high-quality adhesives and coatings has further boosted the market.
