Health concerns have supported demand for poultry production, highlighting the status of poultry products as staples. Despite revenue growth, profit has remained low and decreased since 2017, mainly because of intense price competition, exacerbated by supermarket buying power and rising operating costs. Also, increased animal feed costs have restricted operating profit since 2017-18 relative to foreign producers. Consequently, despite revenue growth, some farmers have stopped operations and a degree of consolidation has occurred. Poultry producers have increased investment in automation following concerns over labour shortages after Brexit. This industry includes firms that operate hatcheries for poultry, including chickens, turkeys, ducks, geese and guinea fowl. This includes both broilers and egg-laying birds. Egg production is also covered, but the production of feathers or down is not. This report covers the scope, size, disposition and growth of the industry including the key sensitivities and success factors. Also included are five year industry forecasts, growth rates and an analysis of the industry key players and their market shares.Broken egg: Industry revenue is expected to fall in 2023-24, hindered by rising animal feed prices
