New page: Returning demand from schools has supported industry revenue as pandemic restrictions ease
The Paper Stationery Manufacturing industry has declined over the past five years as rising competition from imports and falling demand have devastated revenue. Schools and businesses closing from March 2020 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic have caused a sharp decline in demand for industry products. In 2019-20 alone, revenue fell by approximately one-third. However, household spending on paper stationery has partially offset this trend, as consumers have set up home offices and classrooms. Over the past five years, digital communication has become increasingly popular, with emails and business communication platforms like Microsoft Teams replacing letter-based mail. Alternative materials, including plastics and fibres, have similarly supplanted paper products in many applications. Industry revenue is expected to decline at an annualised 6.1% over the five years through 2022-23, to $389.1 million. This trend includes an anticipated increase of 0.5% in the current year, supported by rising demand from school education and increasing household consumption expenditure.
Industry operators purchase paper and paperboard from mills and process it into a range of office, educational and personal paper stationery products. Industry products include writing and filing materials, paper labels, paperboard games and toys, playing cards and similar products.
This report covers the scope, size, disposition and growth of the industry including the key sensitivities and success factors. Also included are five year industry forecasts, growth rates and an analysis of the industry's key players and their market shares.
