COVID-19 Impact


In the United Kingdom, the COVID-19 outbreak slowed the growth of the poultry feed industry. According to AHDB data, the only feed sector in the UK that decreased year over year in July 2020 was poultry feed production. According to the data, poultry feed was down 4% from the previous year in July 2020. The shutdown of restaurants during the lockdown contributed to the drop in poultry meat demand. The poultry feed sector, on the other hand, thrived in the latter stages owing to exemptions from lockdown laws and an increase in poultry meat consumption. Increased house purchases were expected to have tempered the decrease in foodservice demand for poultry. According to Kantar Worldpanel, the volume of chicken sold through retail climbed 8.8% annualized at the end of August.

Recent Development


Tyson Foods, the world's second-largest poultry company, debuted a new line of chicken snack products in the United Kingdom in May 2021.

In February 2019, American multinational Tyson Foods announced its intention to purchase BRF S.A.'s Thai and European operations. Four processing plants in Thailand, one in the Netherlands, and one in the United Kingdom are part of the deal.

Cargill increased its range of artificial intelligence-powered solutions in January 2022 to provide poultry producers with actionable insights.

In February 2021, as part of its growth strategy, ABN announced plans to construct the UK's largest, state-of-the-art feed mill in the East of England, capable of producing 1 million tonnes of pig and poultry feed annually.
