The Cochlear Implant market is a subset of the Hearing Aids and Implants market. Cochlear Implants are surgically implanted electronic devices that provide a sense of sound to a person who is profoundly deaf or severely hard of hearing. They are designed to bypass the damaged inner ear and directly stimulate the auditory nerve. Cochlear Implants are typically used when hearing aids are not sufficient to provide the desired level of hearing.
Cochlear Implants are typically used in adults and children over the age of 12 months. The implant consists of an external portion that sits behind the ear and a second portion that is surgically placed under the skin. The external portion picks up sound and converts it into electrical signals which are then sent to the internal portion. The internal portion then stimulates the auditory nerve, allowing the person to hear.
The Cochlear Implant market is highly competitive, with many companies offering a variety of products. Some of the major players in the market include Cochlear, MED-EL, Advanced Bionics, Oticon Medical, and Sonova. Show Less Read more
