Flutamide is a non-steroidal anti-androgen drug used in the treatment of prostate cancer. It works by blocking the action of androgens, hormones that can promote the growth of prostate cancer cells. Flutamide is usually used in combination with other drugs, such as a luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LHRH) agonist, to reduce the amount of testosterone in the body. This helps to slow the growth of prostate cancer cells. Flutamide is also used to treat hirsutism, a condition in which women have excessive body hair growth.
Flutamide is available in tablet form and is taken orally. Common side effects of flutamide include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. Other side effects may include liver damage, decreased libido, and gynecomastia.
Flutamide is one of several drugs used to treat prostate cancer. Other drugs used to treat prostate cancer include bicalutamide, enzalutamide, and abiraterone.
Some companies that produce flutamide include Teva Pharmaceuticals, Mylan Pharmaceuticals, and Sun Pharmaceuticals. Show Less Read more
