Metoprolol is a beta-blocker drug used to treat high blood pressure, angina, and other cardiovascular conditions. It is a selective beta-1 receptor blocker, meaning it blocks the action of the hormone epinephrine on the heart, reducing heart rate and blood pressure. Metoprolol is available in both immediate-release and extended-release formulations, allowing for more flexibility in dosing. It is also available in combination with other drugs, such as hydrochlorothiazide, to treat hypertension. Metoprolol is generally well-tolerated, with few side effects.
Metoprolol is a widely used drug in the cardiovascular market, with many generic and branded versions available. Major pharmaceutical companies such as Pfizer, Novartis, and Merck & Co. produce branded versions of the drug, while generic versions are available from many generic drug manufacturers. Additionally, many generic drug manufacturers produce combination products containing metoprolol and other drugs. Show Less Read more
