Solution Styrene Butadiene Rubber (S-SBR) is a type of synthetic rubber derived from a copolymer of styrene and butadiene. These polymers are produced through the solution polymerization process, which results in rubber with a specific microstructure that provides it with distinct properties compared to emulsion SBR (E-SBR) and natural rubber. S-SBR is known for its superior abrasion resistance, low rolling resistance, and wet grip characteristics, making it particularly desirable in the manufacturing of high-performance tires. Additionally, this material is used in various non-tire applications including footwear, polymer modification, and adhesives due to its resilience, heat aging properties, and ability to be mixed with other rubbers and polymers for enhanced performance characteristics.
In the rubber market, S-SBR is especially valued in the automotive sector, as the demand for tires that offer fuel efficiency, longevity, and safety grows. The thriving automotive industry, along with advancements in tire technology, has been the catalyst for increased demand for S-SBR.
Several players operate in the S-SBR market, including major petrochemical companies and specialized rubber producers. Some key companies active in this market are Sibur, Synthos S.A., Asahi Kasei Corporation, Bridgestone Corporation, LANXESS AG, The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, Dynasol Elastomers, JSR Corporation, Trinseo, and Kumho Petrochemical Co., Ltd.
