Whitehaven Coal is a New South Wales coal producer and an emerging force in the Australian coal mining industry. They are the leading coal producer in the Gunnedah Basin, including development of the Narrabri, Vickery and Maules Creek mines. The company operates in two segments: Open Cut Operations and Underground Operations. Founded in 1999, they began by developing three small open cut coal mines (Tarrawonga, Rocglen and Werris Creek) and have since built an extensive portfolio of producing mines.
