This report provides detailed consumer insights into Spanish apparel market. It centers on consumer sentiment, categories purchased, channel usage, motivations for purchasing, purchase frequency and the most popular global brands.

Spain’s inflation rate is softening, slowing to 3.8% in December 2023 from 8.3% in 2022, driving less than half of consumers to expect the economy to get worse in the next six months. In 2023, 81.4% of apparel shoppers bought items instore, while 61.1% purchased online, as consumers favoured being able to see and try on items in person before committing. 26.1% purchased secondhand apparel in the past year, however, this was driven by a desire to save money rather than to be more sustainable.

Scope

  • 67.7% of Spanish consumers agreed that shopping online allows for much greater choice compared to physical shops, while 56.9% prefer the ease of comparing products online and 40.0% are deterred from shopping via this channel due to return fees.
  • Over half of Spanish apparel shoppers expect their spending on secondhand to remain the same as last year. However, 10.0% expect their spending to increase, while 30.4% anticipate cutting back and 7.4% will not purchase it at all.
