The Goods and Services Tax (GST) is a value-added tax levied on the supply of goods and services in India. It is a comprehensive, multi-stage, destination-based tax that is levied on every value addition. GST is levied on the supply of goods and services at each stage of the supply chain, from the manufacturer to the consumer. GST is collected by the Central Government and shared between the Central and State Governments.
GST is applicable to all goods and services, except those specifically exempted by the government. GST is applicable to all businesses, regardless of size or turnover. GST is also applicable to imports and exports of goods and services.
GST is administered by the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), which is responsible for the implementation and enforcement of GST. The CBIC is also responsible for the collection of GST revenue.
Companies in the GST market include ClearTax, Taxmann, Tally Solutions, Zoho Books, and QuickBooks. Show Less Read more
